ESPN-Lakeland College “The Ocho” has just released news of O’Callahans’ starting line-up for Thursday’s game scheduled for 5:40 p.m. CT:
LC Tim Romanello
RC Andy Kerwin
LF Sam Scharinger
3B Chris Thousand
SS Mike Bachar
P Chad Schreiber
RF Nate Denhe
C Kevin Doherty
1B Chad Buchmann
2B Colin Bruton
*Substitute: Daisuke Sugimoto*
It looks like Player-Manager Tim Romanello has decided to send only ten batters to the plate instead of roster batting this week. “I’ve played around with a couple of things the past couple of weeks. But I think that this line-up gives us the best chance to win at the moment. And should some freak accident happens, we’ll have a sub readily accessible, without penalty,” said Romanello.
O’Callahans’ sent all ten of its men to bat in the first game and chose to roster bat, sending all twelve to the plate in week two. Clearly, during roster batting, if a player gets injured, there is no replacement and when that slot in the order comes around again, it counts as an automatic out. Romanello commented about why Sugimoto was the chosen player to start the game on the bench or not be included in the batting lineup. “You guys are always trying to create conflict and controversy, but this has nothing to do with the incident of last week—Sugimoto’s team fine. He’s still apart of our team, he’ll still get his playing time, this isn’t punishment, he’s just not starting. Everyone will get a chance to do that. Sending only ten men with the eleventh on the bench gives us the best lineup. Our best hitters get more chances and in case of an injury, we won’t get stuck with the automatic out rule that follows roster batting.”
